Reflection:  Bible study group. No one told me the rules, like never use the index of your Bible in front of people; the version of the Bible you read is an indicator of your faithfulness; and it’s important to demonstrate your intellectual prowess by using words you don’t fully understand. Needless to say, it was a bit awkward when I admitted to my Bible study group that I thought I loved chocolate more than I loved God. Deafening silence ensued followed by a
quick change of topic. And that’s when I learned that using chocolate to make me happy instead of leaning on God was not something we talked about. We all did it, we all used something, but we didn’t want to name it. We needed to believe the lie that we can find joy in anything other than him. But I’ve discovered that the joy of knowing the living creator of the universe is, in fact, better than brown squares of fermented seeds! Who knew?
Question:Â Do you lean on something other than God to bring you joy? Are you being honest with God about it?
Prayer: Â Develop a pure heart in us Lord, that we
might see you. Amen.
