When we pursue Joy we can find ourselves distracted and discontent, yet when we pursue Jesus we find Joy that is both sustaining and complete.
Today we start a new series, Chasing Joy, which has been prepared by Bec Oates. Bec is a strikingly ordinary individual and a faulty follower of Jesus. She is best known for awkward moments, inappropriate thoughts and Australian humour. Her blogs reflect her deep commitment to discovering God and her passion for the poor.
Reflection: No one ever tells you the hardest thing about parenting. So here it is – removing dried Weet Bix from your kitchen table. It sets like cement, you might as well just give up and buy a new table. Because you can’t have people seeing dried up Weet Bix on your table. Because that would indicate some kind of failure as a human being, clearly. We need to be perfect. Because that’s what Jesus asks of us right? To be perfect?Or does he walk into our
morning mayhem, walk straight past our cleverly catalogued Christian collateral, and while wiping a flying piece of Weet Bix from his eye, laugh and say, “I love you”.
Question: Are you being crushed by expectation? Are you finding joy in Jesus?
Prayer: Father, thank you for the freedom of laughter. May your Spirit refresh our weary bones as we find joy in you.
