Reflection: I went skiing recently. Well, I went to the snow and watched my kids ski past me as I stumbled around with zero equilibrium or poise. My fitness level is… let’s call it low. And so, as much as I wanted to glide down the mountain like a gazelle, I just couldn’t. I hadn’t done the hard yards required. It wasn’t enough just to show up, it wasn’t enough just to hang around with other skiers, it wasn’t enough for me to read a book on skiing, it wasn’t enough to
just say I am a skier. If I wanted to enjoy the ride then discipline and self-control were the foundation, and I just didn’t have it. The lie that doing anything you want brings joy and freedom is a clever one, but don’t be fooled, following Jesus requires obedience, discipline and self-control and there is no greater freedom or joy.
Question: Are you enjoying the ride? Do you need to work on your foundations?
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for the fruit of your Spirit, all of them! Amen.
