Journey Songs (Psalms of Ascent)

Day 8 of 14

NIV

Psalms 127:3-5

3Children are a heritage from the Lord,

offspring a reward from him.

4Like arrows in the hands of a warrior

are children born in one’s youth.

5Blessed is the man

whose quiver is full of them.

They will not be put to shame

when they contend with their opponents in court.

Reflection:  Blessing

Children are a gift from God. They really are. It is such a privilege to be given these little ones to care for, nurture, protect and teach. I don’t mean to say that it is easy! From hours of pacing in the early morning, to dealing with the heartache of falling out with your teenager and every moment in between – parenting is hard. But it is a privilege and a blessing. What is the biggest gift I can give them? That they would know and love Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. For all of us who are parents, that is our prayer.

Question:  How can you encourage your kids to know and love Jesus today?  If you don’t have children, how can you encourage a family that you know?

Prayer:  Gracious God, thank you for the blessing that children are. I pray that the children in my life would always know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Psalms 127:1-5

Psalm 127

A song of ascents. Of Solomon.

1Unless the Lord builds the house,

the builders labor in vain.

Unless the Lord watches over the city,

the guards stand watch in vain.

2In vain you rise early

and stay up late,

toiling for food to eat—

for he grants sleep to those he loves.

3Children are a heritage from the Lord,

offspring a reward from him.

4Like arrows in the hands of a warrior

are children born in one’s youth.

5Blessed is the man

whose quiver is full of them.

They will not be put to shame

when they contend with their opponents in court.
