Journey Songs (Psalms of Ascent)

Day 12 of 14

NIV

Psalms 130:7-8

7Israel, put your hope in the Lord,

for with the Lord is unfailing love

and with him is full redemption.

8He himself will redeem Israel

from all their sins.

Reflection:  Hope

This Psalm ends with a call to put your hope in God (vs 7). Why would you do that? Look at how God is described in these verses: He loves. He saves. He redeems. This is the God that we worship. His love is unfailing. His love will never let you down, it will never be cold. He saves people from the judgement we deserve because of our rebellion. He saves people from hell. He redeems. He restores us back into the relationship with him we were created to have. How amazing is our God! This Psalm has taken us on a journey from despair (vs 1-2), to the cross (vs 3-4), to our eternal hope (v 6) to a vision of God’s very heart (vs 7-8). What a beautiful God we worship.

Question:  Which aspect of God’s character do you find yourself resonating with: his love, his saving, or his redemption?

Prayer:  Thank you, God, that your love is unfailing. Thank you that you save fully. Thank you that you restore us into a right relationship. Thank you that this is all brought about because of Jesus.

Psalms 130:1-8

Psalm 130

A song of ascents.

1Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

2Lord, hear my voice.

Let your ears be attentive

to my cry for mercy.

3If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,

Lord, who could stand?

4But with you there is forgiveness,

so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

5I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,

and in his word I put my hope.

6I wait for the Lord

more than watchmen wait for the morning,

more than watchmen wait for the morning.

7Israel, put your hope in the Lord,

for with the Lord is unfailing love

and with him is full redemption.

8He himself will redeem Israel

from all their sins.
