Journey Songs (Psalms of Ascent)

Day 2 of 14

NIV

Psalms 121:3-4

3He will not let your foot slip—

he who watches over you will not slumber;

4indeed, he who watches over Israel

will neither slumber nor sleep.

Reflection:  Weary

We all have those moments when we feel weary. When we feel exhausted, and we crumple into a heap on the floor. When it all gets too hard. In these moments we long for rest. The image of God here in these verses show us that while we tire, he does not. That while we become exhausted, he never will. God never needs rest. He never needs a break. He never needs the recharge. Because of this, you can. You can rest in him. You can rest in him amid your weariness. This is because God is your protector, your sustainer and your provider. He will provide you with the rest you long for. This rest is ultimately found at our journey’s end in the New Creation that is coming.

Question:  How does knowing that God never needs to take a break give you comfort in your weariness?

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, I am weary and I need rest. May I rest in the knowledge that you never slumber nor sleep. May this truth do a deep work in my heart today.

Psalms 121:1-8

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1I lift up my eyes to the mountains—

where does my help come from?

2My help comes from the Lord,

the Maker of heaven and earth.

3He will not let your foot slip—

he who watches over you will not slumber;

4indeed, he who watches over Israel

will neither slumber nor sleep.

5The Lord watches over you—

the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

6the sun will not harm you by day,

nor the moon by night.

7The Lord will keep you from all harm—

he will watch over your life;

8the Lord will watch over your coming and going

both now and forevermore.
