Journey Songs (Psalms of Ascent)

Day 10 of 14

NIV

Psalms 130:3-4

3If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,

Lord, who could stand?

4But with you there is forgiveness,

so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

Reflection:  Forgiven

I don’t know how many times I have struggled to let go of the guilt and shame of my sin. As I continue my journey of faith, I find that the Spirit is revealing more and more of my sinful heart. But at the heart of the gospel, sin is dealt with. Jesus died in my place. He died in your place. Why? So you and I can be forgiven. Sin is done away with. The record is wiped clean. The guilt is taken away. We preach the gospel to ourselves every single day. The radical truth in this Psalm is that as God’s forgiven people, we now serve him. It is an incredible thought that God would want to use you and me to share this forgiveness with others too.

Question:  Where do you find yourself holding onto the guilt and shame of sin?  How can you share the full and free forgiveness of the cross today?

Prayer:  Gracious God, thank you that my sin has been dealt with at the cross. May you use me to share of the full and free forgiveness found in Jesus today.

Psalms 130:1-8

Psalm 130

A song of ascents.

1Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

2Lord, hear my voice.

Let your ears be attentive

to my cry for mercy.

3If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,

Lord, who could stand?

4But with you there is forgiveness,

so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

5I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,

and in his word I put my hope.

6I wait for the Lord

more than watchmen wait for the morning,

more than watchmen wait for the morning.

7Israel, put your hope in the Lord,

for with the Lord is unfailing love

and with him is full redemption.

8He himself will redeem Israel

from all their sins.
