Journey Songs (Psalms of Ascent)

Day 5 of 14

NIV

Psalms 126:1-3

Psalm 126

A song of ascents.

1When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,

we were like those who dreamed.

2Our mouths were filled with laughter,

our tongues with songs of joy.

Then it was said among the nations,

“The Lord has done great things for them.”

3The Lord has done great things for us,

and we are filled with joy.

Reflection:  Restoration

The weekly rhythms of the life of the church are so important. This is what has made this COVID season so hard for so many. As I think back on church life 18 months ago – or think ahead to what things may look like in the future, I can find myself thinking it is all a dream. So how do we think about church now? We are not in some holding pattern. The word of God is still going out. There is still joy in our fellowship with one another. We can still declare the goodness and greatness of the Lord who restores us. We look forward to the ultimate restoration of his people, where we will declare forever in song and with joy – the Lord has done great things!

Question:  Does being part of a local church fill you with joy?  Do those around look in on your life and the life of your church and think ‘wow, that is where life is’?

Prayer:  Gracious God, may I know restoring grace in every part of my life. I pray that as a local church, we would live and love like Christ.

Psalms 126:1-6

4Restore our fortunes, Lord,

like streams in the Negev.

5Those who sow with tears

will reap with songs of joy.

6Those who go out weeping,

carrying seed to sow,

will return with songs of joy,

carrying sheaves with them.
