Journey Songs (Psalms of Ascent)

Day 11 of 14

NIV

Psalms 130:5-6

5I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,

and in his word I put my hope.

6I wait for the Lord

more than watchmen wait for the morning,

more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Reflection:  Waiting

One of the hardest lessons we can learn, is the lesson of waiting. We want answers now. We want results now. We want to know what is going to happen now. We want to arrive at our destination now. Our reward, our rest, our inheritance is not found in this life, it is in the life to come. In the New Heavens and the New Earth. So, we wait. We wait patiently. We wait with hope and with expectation. Like the watchman who is waiting for the sun to rise to bring relief, we wait for Christ to return.

Question:  How are you using your time of waiting for God’s glory?  In what area of your heart can you ask God to make you more patient?

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, may I wait on you with my whole self. May I long for Christ’s return. Help me today to use my time of waiting for your Kingdom.

Psalms 130:1-8

Psalm 130

A song of ascents.

1Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

2Lord, hear my voice.

Let your ears be attentive

to my cry for mercy.

3If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,

Lord, who could stand?

4But with you there is forgiveness,

so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

5I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,

and in his word I put my hope.

6I wait for the Lord

more than watchmen wait for the morning,

more than watchmen wait for the morning.

7Israel, put your hope in the Lord,

for with the Lord is unfailing love

and with him is full redemption.

8He himself will redeem Israel

from all their sins.
