Reflection: Running with purpose
In elite sport, coaches plan every session to have a specific purpose and intention based on the time of the season and what they’re trying to achieve. To train without purpose might keep you fit, but it certainly isn’t the best way to achieve your goals and perform to the best of your ability. Just as today’s verses say, ‘I do not box as one beating the air’.
In our Christian journey, God is the coach and his plans for our lives have a purpose. We may not know it or understand it at the time, but we can trust that as our coach, he has the master ‘training plan’ for us to achieve our best in life. Most significantly, the training plan for our lives have eternal outcomes and consequences, unlike sports where we achieve earthly glory and success.
Just as athletes show up to training and complete the sessions to the best of their ability for their earthly coaches, let us also show up and work hard for our heavenly coach, believing that everything he has planned for us has purpose.
Prayer:
God, we thank you that you have amazing plans for our lives, and that even when we don’t feel it, you’re working. Please guide me in the best path that you have planned for me and help me to centre my life on you. Amen.
