Everlasting Crowns

Day 7 of 14

CEV

Matthew 25:14-15

“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.”  Matthew 25:14-15, CEV “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11, CEV

Reflection: Using our gifts wisely: prosperity

(Further reading: Matthew 25:16-30)

In Matthew 25, we meet three stewards of their master’s wealth. We meet two who were given a lot, invested it, and reaped the rewards. Then we meet the third, who was given some and did nothing with it, so reaped nothing. Although the literal sense of this parable refers to finances, on another level it could also be applied to physical talents and skills. Which leads us to consider: if God has blessed you with a talent or skill, are you investing in it and making the most of it? Or are you letting them go to waste? According to Jesus’ words here — “You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things” — if we use the talents we have been given, God will multiply them.

It’s wonderful to think of this story in the context of Jeremiah 29:11, that God has big plans for us to be prosperous. Just imagine what could be achieved if we lean into God and trust him, while we put in the hard work with the skills and talents we’ve been blessed with. This is true for those of us who pursue sporting expertise, and for any area of life.

Consider: are you using your talents (whether athletic, intellectual, musical or otherwise) for God?

Prayer:

God, thank you for the gifts and talents that you’ve given me. I pray you will help me grow and develop my gifts and that you will open doors for me to use my gifts to shine your light. Amen.
