Reflection: Chipping away
Champions aren’t made overnight, or during a single training session or competition. Champions are made through years of training and preparation; each time they lace up their training shoes is another small building block towards success. While in the moment each session may feel pointless or routine, champions are made by the culmination of all the times they put in the hard work and discipline. At the end of it all, athletes can look back and see how all those individual blocks built up to their ultimate success.
This also applies to God’s plan, as is reflected in this verse. Sometimes when we’re doing what God called us to do, it may feel pointless or ‘in vain’ — like we’re not contributing anything at all. The beautiful thing is we can know that one day, we’ll get to heaven and see that each of those things we did was another little building block in God’s ultimate plan.
Don’t lose hope or faith in the little things that you do for God. Remember that athletes don’t lose hope that each training session completed works towards their sporting goals. If athletes can trust that what they do with their own hard work will pay off, shouldn’t we be infinitely more confident that our hard work for God will pay off too?
Prayer:
Sorry, Lord, that sometimes I take you or the plans that you have for my life for granted. Please give me the strength and discipline to keep working hard for you, even when I struggle to see the bigger picture.
