Everlasting Crowns

Day 3 of 14

NIV

Hebrews 12:1-2

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-2, NIV

Reflection: Running the race: the racecourse

A running race or competition is usually based on a set distance, but there are a huge variety of races. A short, middle- or long-distance race; run on a track, on the road, on trails, up and down hills or cross country; and in all sorts of weather – heat, rain, wind, cold. Although they are a set distance, there is no one way of getting there, and races can be won with a wide range of strategies.

If God is the ‘race organiser’ of our lives, he has given us a handbook on the best way to run the race – the Bible! In real racing, just as there will be in life, there will be so many challenges, both controllable and uncontrollable, that can affect the course and how efficiently you run it. Ultimately, if you persevere and continue to stay the course, you will get to the finish.

Prayer:

God, thank you for giving us the Bible to guide us through life. Please help me through the challenges I face in life, so that I can run each of my own ‘races’ with strength and endurance. Amen.
