Reflection: Towards the goal
The highs of sport can be incredibly rewarding, but the lows can be heart-breaking. Athletes pour so much of themselves into something that ultimately only one person or team can come out of, victorious.
Because of this, the first part of this verse is very important – it is essential to always be looking ahead towards what you’re striving to achieve, and to not let the baggage or mindset of a bad race or previous performance weigh down your future performances.
Similarly, in our Christian journey, if we allow our past sins, wrongs or inadequacies to be at the forefront of our mind, that is going to be a barrier to our goal of living our God-given purpose. We don’t want to be focused on our shortcomings, as God has already forgiven those, rather than living free through our salvation, and pressing on, heavenwards.
Prayer:
God, thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. Please forgive me as I continue to sin throughout my life. Please help me to look ahead to the amazing things you have planned for me. Amen.
