Around the world with the Bible

Day 2 of 7

CEV

2 Timothy 3:16-17

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, 17 so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed.” - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (GNT)

Reflection: Cambodia

In Cambodia, The Bible Society in Cambodia met Mrs. Ry when she enrolled her two eldest children in a local literacy class — finding out about it through a local church.

Mrs. Ry is a widow — raising five children, and barely able to make ends meet.

In the weeks that followed, her two children — Sophea and Vannak — began to thrive and their reading was improving with leaps and bounds. With the literacy lessons based on biblical texts, the children were growing in faith and confidence. Sophea and Vannak are now eagerly reading the Bible.

It is Mrs. Ry’s hope that with education her children’s future prospects will be greatly improved and they will be able to enjoy a more comfortable and fulfilling life. She said, “I don’t want to see my children live in a poor life.”

Mrs. Ry’s family are an example to the rest of the community of the transformative power of God’s word and education — thanks to the support they received in learning how to access and engage with Scripture.

What role does Scripture play in your daily life, and those of people in your family and community? How does it equip you?

Prayer:

Father, may the experience of reading the Bible not only enhance literacy but also deepen faith and understanding of your love and grace. Let your word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, illuminating the way for all who seek knowledge and spiritual growth.  Amen.
