Around the world with the Bible

Day 6 of 7

CEV

Romans 10:14-17

“But how can they call to him for help if they have not believed? And how can they believe if they have not heard the message? And how can they hear if the message is not proclaimed? And how can the message be proclaimed if the messengers are not sent out? As the scripture says, “How wonderful is the coming of messengers who bring good news!” But not all have accepted the Good News. Isaiah himself said, “Lord, who believed our message?” So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through preaching Christ.” – Romans 10:14-17 (GNT)

Reflection: Vietnam

In Vietnam, the Bunong ethnic people group celebrated receiving their first complete Bible in the Bunong language. Three members of the Bu Dak church in Central Highland Vietnam shared what it means to them:

“Today is the first time I have ever seen a Bunong Bible. I am overwhelmed with joy.”

“I am so happy now I have a Bunong Bible. Before having this Bible, I knew God through stories told and what others shared with me. Now, I can read and study the Bible on my own. I will discover what God wants for my life.”

“This Bunong Bible is the food for my soul; without it, I do not know my path or how to walk in righteousness.”

In 2017 translation teams collaborated with Bible Society Vietnam to translate the complete Bible into Bunong, concluding in March 2023. Seven years of labour culminated in the joyous reception of the Bunong people, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the Christian faith in the highlands of Vietnam — with a Bible in their heart language.

In what ways can you act as a messenger of the Good News within your community? How could you proclaim the message of hope and love that comes from knowing Christ?

Prayer:

Father, may we all appreciate what it means to have the Bible in our heart language. Use your word to bring us closer to you, guiding us all in righteousness and filling our lives with your love and wisdom. Amen.
