Around the world with the Bible

Day 3 of 7

CEV

Psalm 96:2-3

“Sing to the Lord and praise him!  Proclaim every day the good news that he has saved us.  Proclaim his glory to the nations, his mighty deeds to all peoples.” – Psalm 96:2-3 (GNT)

Reflection: The Philippines

“The excitement our community feels about having the New Testament in our own language for the very first time is beyond measure,” says Reina, one of the translators working on the New Testament in Northern Sorsoganon, a Bisayan language from the Bicol region in the Philippines.

In the Philippines, there are 45 language groups without a Bible translation in their mother tongue. The Philippines Bible Society (PBS) together with other Bible translation agencies are committed to translate the Bible into these remaining languages.

“I remember one of my younger siblings complaining because she couldn’t understand many words from the translation of the Bible in the regional Bicol language… While we, Sorsoganons, can communicate in that language, it is not natural for us…

“Having the Bible in our own language would help reach many people through God’s word and meet the needs of our community. I am confident that the Lord will use it to transform many lives.”

How could you actively proclaim the good news of God’s salvation in your own community or sphere of influence, just as Reina and others are working to bring the Bible to those who need it in their heart language?

Prayer:

Lord, we pray for your continued blessing and guidance over Bible translation projects. May your Spirit move mightily in the hearts of those working tirelessly to ensure that your word reaches every corner of the earth. We trust in your promise that your word will not return empty but will accomplish your purpose.
