Reflection: It’s this verse in Revelation that made me eager to paraphrase Psalm 23. What kind of twisted fate has a lamb leading the shepherd? What kind of lamb can be a king and caretaker?
Turns out it’s the one I worship and will worship into eternity. Christ Jesus, God’s perfect son and sacrifice, king and advocate. I can only claim to call him Shepherd because, mercifully, as the Lamb of God his sacrifice has made me holy and clean and because, by his Spirit and in my sheepish way, I’ll keep listening for his voice, and following him.
You gathered me up and carried me close
So comfort-close to become a lamb,
Oh Lamb of God.
That Life be reclaimed
You surrendered yours.
In doing so, so-sated every need
Satiated my every need…through grace…
That my life is with mercy, goodness and beauty-branded
Both now and into eternity–
My forever-home
Where I’ll worship you
The Lamb who is my Shepherd
Prayer: Lord of heaven and earth, I’m part of all creation wandering in the scorching mess of selfishness and nature-gone-wrong but through the Lamb you are my rescuer from that terror today and into eternity. Mercifully rescue all those who know they are desperate. I’m tired and thirsty. Shepherd me, quench my thirst and use me to bring another thirsty someone to you.
