14 day plan

Good Shepherding

Day 11 of 14

NIV

Psalms 23:6

6Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

forever.

Reflection:  You over-abundantly bless and satisfy me such that goodness and love will chase my every day; (author’s paraphrase of Psalm 23:5b-6a)

As a friend once said to me in a disheartening time, Look over your shoulder. Who do you see following you? Yup, there they are! Goodness and Mercy. Personified, they’re on my heels … chasing me. Each morning, there they are, fresh and dependable. * Every day – now and into eternity, running me down till I get to my destination. Not deterred by death or life; not daunted by spiritual or earthly powers; not intimidated by forces present or to come; not ruffled by what’s highfalutin or profoundly mysterious. There they are, and there they will be, because absolutely nothing in all creation is capable of coming between me and God’s love through our Lord Jesus Christ. **

Not to say the journey with these life-long followers will be easy. Faith is often buried in suffering. But, fellow travellers, we can look over our shoulders with Job, and say, “I’d heard about you…but now I’ve seen you.” ***

*Lamentations 3:20-23

**Romans 8:35, 37-39

*** Job 42:5

Prayer:  We know how dearly you love us Father, because you have given your Spirit who deluges us with your love. (Romans 5:5) Thank you for your abundant goodness and mercy behind, within and before.

Psalms 23:1-6

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

1The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

2He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

3he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

for his name’s sake.

4Even though I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

5You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

6Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

forever.
