Reflection: We left Eden long ago. Banished from paradise. Not just privy to good and evil but wayward and lost through choosing it. But there’s no hint of that here. Why? Because David is confident that we haven’t left the shepherd’s reach. Like the phrase before, this is an affirmation of faith.
Resting or on the move, what refreshes your weary body and sore soul?
Maybe something as practical as verdant pastures and restful streams;
as memorable as the cross and unfathomable as forgiveness;
as hopeful as resurrection glory;
as spiritual as your faith tested;
as supernatural as your soul recognizably transforming;
as pleasurable as companionship;
as peaceful as solitude;
as remarkable as being in the company of our Lord.
Revelation 7:17 gives us a peek into a new Eden. That’s the Lord-shepherd’s destination. That’s our destination. For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water.
Prayer:Â With restful confidence I bask in your masterful and gentle care, shepherd of my body and soul. Mercifully gather your world-wide and multi-generational flock till one day you wipe every tear from our eyes, so we see you face to face.
