God in the Ordinary, Everyday Life

Day 13 of 14

NIV

Psalm 32:8

"The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you." Psalm 32:8, NLT

Reflection:

Teaching my daughter how to ride a bike is NEARLY impossible.

“I can ride every bike in the world,” she declared. When I tried getting her to ride without trainer wheels, she lost her mind. “This bike is stupid, I hate it, I can’t do this!” No matter what I did, she would NOT listen to me. I showed her that I have the bike riding experience, which qualifies me as someone who can teach her, but she didn’t care. As far as she was concerned, she would never ride and declared that I would not be the one teaching her.

How much am I like that with God? His word shows me that I need to improve and I will not listen. I think I can do it without God, and then when I fall, I scream at God, demanding to know where he was when I fell. He gently reminds me that he was and is always there, I simply refused to acknowledge it. I harrumph and make up excuses for my lack of discipline. It isn’t until I am brought down low, that I confess, like my daughter eventually did: “I’m sorry, I need you…and I can’t ride all the bikes in the world.”

 Are you teachable?

Prayer:

Our Heavenly Father,  Thank you that you will always guide us, advise us and watch over us.  We are sorry when we forget how simple it is to ask you for help.  Amen. Â
