Reflection: Where is home? Kansas for Dorothy, Asgard for Thor, Monica’s apartment for F.R.I.E.N.D.S, the Shire for hobbits, Stars Hollow for Gilmore girls. Home. We all have a deep longing for a place we call Home.
It is somewhere that we feel safe and secure. It is a deep longing for those who are in temporary housing, or sleep nights in cold, wet and often dangerous places, or who are refugees fleeing persecution. For others, home is about connection with country, or family, and maybe even legacies. Sometimes we take being home for granted. At other times, especially for some in lockdown, home can seem like a prison.
Jesus answers our deepest longings for a home, with our heavenly home. This world isn’t our home; our True Home is with Jesus. He is preparing a beautiful home for us (Rev 21-22) and he is the Way for us to get Home (John 14:6).
Question: Where do you long to be? How can reflection on your Heavenly Home with Jesus give you perspective today?
Prayer: Our Father in Heaven, thank you that I have a home waiting with you. May I be thankful for my earthly residence. May I be merciful and generous to those who do not have a home; I ask for peace in homes of fear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
