Reflection: Who will rescue us? Those young at heart will know that there has been a rise in rescue-hero narratives. Whether it is Marvel, DC, Star Wars or Stranger Things, the storyline is similar; good saves the day by overcoming evil after huge obstacles and sacrifices.
These storylines echo a deep longing for rescue, which is answered in the most magnificent hero: Jesus, who gives his life to save the world.
The world needs saving. I need saving. The huge issues we face are just the symptoms of the main problem, sin. As I think about this complex world, which daily seems to need rescuing more and more, I long for the True Hero and Rescuer, who is not a work of fiction and has conquered death for me, so that I may have eternal life.
Question: What do you long to be rescued from? Which heroes do you admire, and how night they draw you back to the True Hero and True Rescuer?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have loved me and saved me through your Son, Jesus Christ. May I believe in him, who died and rose again, to rescue me and to give me eternal life. Amen.
