Reflection: Where do I find peace? For the most part, we like the ‘happily ever after’ endings that are given to us by mainstream films. A good novel ends with everything resolved. A piece of music feels complete when finished in harmonic tones.
We deeply long for that peace and resolution in our lives as well. This may be peace within our families, peace within the school or workplace, peace in relationships or within the wider world, or our own personal peace.
After these words from Jesus, the disciples are going to see some very ugly things at the cross. Yet, before this difficult journey for Jesus, he gives these words of comfort to his disciples, and by extension, to us. His death and resurrection will bring long-lasting peace and reconciliation with God. He is our peace.
Question: In what ways do you long for peace? How can the peace that Jesus gives you help you be a peacemaker today?
Prayer: Good and loving Father, thank you that Jesus gives me peace that the world cannot give me. Help me be an instrument of your peace in our world. In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.
