Reflection: Do I belong? I love a tale where individuals (often viewed as misfits) band together and become a group force; the Fellowship (of the Ring), the Mighty Ducks, Justice League, Dumbledore’s Army, the Stranger Things crew. I would love to belong to many of these groups.
Longing to belong can sometimes mean that our efforts focus on ‘fitting in’ or being around only others who are ‘like us.’ This isn’t true belonging.
Jesus offers us the answer to our longing for connection; he tells us to remain or abide in him. When we realise the constant presence of Jesus in our lives, we are never alone or abandoned. In these complex times, when we might feel isolated, he is with us always (Matt 28:20). We belong to Jesus and one day we will be with him.
Question:Â Do you deeply long to belong? Do you know a group that you want to belong to? Why do you want to belong to them, and is it good for your walk with God? How might belonging to Jesus bring you encouragement today?
Prayer: Almighty God, thank you that I am never alone and that, through Jesus, I belong to you. Help me realise your constant presence in my life and live this day to bear fruit for your holy name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
