Reflection: How can I be free? More and more, we long to escape parts of life in the hope that we can be free. Personal freedoms have been difficult during COVID-19 lockdowns. We have had to rethink how to escape the norm, whilst staying at home and often without overspending. Some ways of escaping reality can be good and help us regain perspective. Others can harm, and our efforts to ‘free’ ourselves become entrapment.
Here, Jesus speaks to those who have forgotten that their heritage includes being slaves in Egypt. Their ancestors cried out for freedom to be rescued and God sent Moses. Now, one greater than Moses is here. In Jesus we find our great escape, from the burdens and sin that we all bear and from which we long to be free. His one true and sufficient sacrifice gives us the greatest freedom.
Question: What do you long to be free from? How can freedom in Jesus help give you a different view of what it means to be free?
Prayer: Almighty God, thank you that my freedom is found in Jesus. May I remind myself of that freedom as I live this day in honour to you. Amen.
