Reflection: These verses show it is necessary for people to understand that God is the only true God. The Bible speaks strongly that there is only one God and he alone is to be worshiped (Deut 6:4-5). God’s desire is that people from all nations would know him. We can be tempted to think that it doesn’t matter which god people worship but that is to reject the true God and arrogantly think we can decide what he is like and how he would like to be worshipped. But the true God tells us who he is and how he wants to be worshipped. We cannot ignore this. We are called to love him with
all our hearts, minds and souls.
Question: How do you feel about this? Is it right that only the God of the Bible should be worshipped or is it ok that people with other religions and cultures worship their gods too? (see Acts 17:22-28 for more on this).
Prayer: God, thank you that you care about those who don’t yet know you – the true God. I pray you would send people into their lives who can share the gospel with them. Help me to trust the Bible even when I am uneasy with what it says. Please be growing me so that my thoughts and emotions are aligned with the Bible. Amen.
