Reflection:  God only has the rightful ownership of all things. It is therefore right that he is a jealous God – not willing to share glory or praise with any other. Here in Deuteronomy we see that God should be feared and be exclusively followed. He is not to be taken lightly or disregarded. His people are warned that God is a jealous God and his anger would burn against them if they followed other gods. It can be tempting to think of God as a sweet grandfather who looks after us, but not as a God who
has rightful anger and jealousy.
Question: How does God’s jealousy and wrath affect the way I think about sin?
Prayer:Â God, you are the rightful king over all things and over every aspect of my life. Sorry for when I have taken you too lightly and have sinned against you. Help me to love you with all my heart, mind and soul, not following anyone or anything else. Amen.
