Reflection: What is your default setting? When things are going well for me, it is easy for my response to be joyous and full of praise and love for God. It is harder for this to be my default setting when I have run into a problem, a challenge, a trial. Yet God requires praise in every circumstance, because of who he is. It is my choice to trust God in spite of my circumstances, to praise him in the storm – this is developing my endurance and my character. I have been surprised how often I have received comments from people who have, unbeknown to me, been watching me in various trials, and have noted my response. I know God is trustworthy and expressing praise and joy (because of the hope I have in my eternal future) can change my perspective and thinking. Even in times of trials and difficulties – especially in these times – expressing joy and praise can change everything.
Prayer: Lord, I thank you and praise you for who you are and for the eternal hope I have in you. I trust you with my challenges today and give you all the praise for what you are doing in my life. Amen.
