The Lord's Servant
1 The Lord says,
“Here is my servant, whom I strengthen—
the one I have chosen, with whom I am pleased.
I have filled him with my Spirit,
and he will bring justice to every nation.
2He will not shout or raise his voice
or make loud speeches in the streets.
3He will not break off a bent reed
nor put out a flickering lamp.
He will bring lasting justice to all.
4He will not lose hope or courage;
he will establish justice on the earth.
Distant lands eagerly wait for his teaching.”
Reflection: Over the last two days we’ve seen pictures of the Kingdom of God – where all nations are welcomed, where all learn and are near to God, which is rich in peace, abundant in justice and righteousness. Today’s passage continues to paint a picture of the Kingdom of God, but with a new element – the servant who will bring the Kingdom in is introduced.
Question: What characterises the servant? What will he bring? Does his method surprise
you?
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for your servant who will bring forth justice. Thank you for his gentleness and humility. We long for your justice to be established throughout the earth. Amen.
We are reading the Bible with Jessica Smith until 24th March.
