Reflection: Some people think that fatherhood is exclusively about our relationship with our kids, but it’s also about our relationship with their mother. Whatever your marital status, relationships with children are influenced by how a father treats their mother. James warns us about being enticed by evil desires. These desires give birth to sin, which leads to death. Sin against wives and mothers can fester to death of our relationship with our children. Our human temptation and desires can often be self-serving. Kids will often notice how their mum or caregiver is treated and
will model this in their future relationships. James’ warning of being dragged away by evil desires is relevant to fatherhood and we should always be reminded that God calls us to a life of other-centred love, not self-seeking desires.
Questions: What is an evil desire that you are vulnerable to? How can you seek God’s wisdom to focus on his desires rather than your own?
Prayer: Lord, thank you for conquering evil and saving us through the death and resurrection of your son Jesus Christ. Thank you for your redemptive plan through the Bible and help us to pursue you and your grace and not our own evil desires.
