Reflection: Have you ever been asked to do a speech and you’ve absolutely fried your brain trying to say something new and clever? Or maybe when a friend asks for your advice, you’re not sure what to say?
Even in daily conversations, we can often feel like we need to re-invent the wheel but that’s a lot of unnecessary pressure you put on yourself. Something I have learnt time and time again while being a radio presenter is this – keep it simple.
Entrepreneur and author Jim Rohn said, “Smart people make simple things difficult. Intelligent people make simple things easier.”
Don’t underestimate the power in saying words like “I’m not going to leave you”, “I love you” or “you are not alone”. In fact, it’s these same words God says to us over and over again.
“Be strong. Be brave. Be fearless. You are never alone.” (see Joshua 1:9).
God knows that simple works. So, the next time you’re not sure what to say in a situation, keep it simple but say it with conviction.
Prayer: Help me Lord, to keep my words simple through the clarity of my thoughts. Even if that means I say less, help me to not invite ruin through careless words. Help me also to discern who is wise and whose knowledge I can rely on. Amen.
