Reflection: In the book of Proverbs, after wisdom, the second most mentioned topic is the power of words. In Luke 6:45 Jesus goes on to tell us that our words are a reflection of who we are on the inside.
What do your words say about you? What do they reveal about the condition of your heart? Now, I’m not just talking about the words you say when you’re on show. The Bible teaches us that ALL words matter. The ones you say under your breath while you’re doing the housework, the voice notes you send to your friends, or the choice of words when you parent your children. The mouth pours out what is already stored in your heart. And once these words pour out, they add wings to what we’ve been mulling over. Have you ever suddenly exclaimed “I can’t do this!” and then suddenly you actually feel the meaning of those words? Words carry power!
The good news is that there is a safe place for you to express all those words – in the presence of God. You can bring your words to God and ask him to lead and guide them.
Prayer: Lord help me to share my heart with you in the safety of prayer. Forgive me for the words I speak in haste and in heated emotion. Heal my heart so that the words that pour out of it are life giving. Amen.
