Reflection: God only gives the resources to deal with the worries of today – no more.
The trouble is: we are addicted to worry. As Mark Twain said: ‘I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened
To a world wracked by anxiety, Jesus says: Don’t worry about the future. Concentrate on being faithful today. That’s what you have been given the resources for. You haven’t yet needed the resources to be faithful beyond today. Therefore, let today be your priority, not tomorrow.
Worry is the great “spoiler.” It spoils your day. We have to ask ourselves why it is, then, that we choose to worry, when all it does is give us grief.
Worrying can become an unwelcome addictive habit. The American author, Arthur Somers Roche, said famously: ‘Anxiety is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.
So, live well and faithfully today… and we’ll talk about tomorrow – tomorrow.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me for wearying myself with anxiety, when you invite me to know your strength and peace. I want to know you as Father, the one who will provide for me each day.
