Series Introduction: Peace is the ache of the soul. We seek it, as we seek for water in a dry, pitiless desert. And, wonderfully, God provides it. So, let’s journey together and seek it out.
Reflection: The Quechua Indians in Ecuador and Bolivia have a special word for “peace”. Their word literally translates as, “to sit down in one’s heart.”
So, I invite you to sit down in your heart and meditate on these verses.
Let (i.e. allow) the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (Col 3:15)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).
The biblical concept of peace does not focus on the absence of trouble. Biblical peace is unrelated to circumstances. In fact, you may be in the midst of great trials and still have God’s peace. Paul said he could be content in any circumstance, and he demonstrated this by having peace, even when he was in the jail at Philippi.
Peace is the presence of God.
Prayer: Forgive my busyness – the busyness that you did not ask for. In truth, my heart aches for peace. So I choose now to “sit down in my heart” with you.
