Peace

Day 14 of 14

NIV

Psalms 23:1-2

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

1The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

2He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

Reflection:  Fundamentally, if you want peace, you need to be at peace with God. This means allowing him to lead you to quiet places where you will find intimacy.

Only God can promise us ultimate peace (or “rest”) at the end of time. The writer of Hebrews makes this clear when he says: ‘Now we who have believed enter that rest’ (Hebrews 4:3).

But here’s the thing: if we accept God’s love and leadership, we can experience some of that peace now. In other words, we are allowed a “sneak preview.” We are also invited to prefigure this peace whilst we are still on assignment on planet Earth.

So, please don’t miss out on God’s rest. The writer of Hebrews urges us to ‘make every effort to enter that rest’ (Hebrews 4:11).

Finding rest means finding Jesus. And once you have found Jesus, be confident. The apostle Paul writes: ‘I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day’ (2 Timothy 1:12).

…Which is a great place to end.

Prayer:  Dear Lord Jesus, the sense of there being a “home” to go to, is delicious. I long for its green pastures and quiet waters. Please help me be ready for it.

Psalms 23:1-6

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

1The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

2He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

3he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

for his name’s sake.

4Even though I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

5You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

6Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

forever.
