Reflection: Most of the world is not at peace with God. Since Adam and Eve, humankind has rebelled against God, we have become as the apostle Paul says, ‘enemies of God’ (Romans 5:10).
But when God activated his plan to rescue us back to himself through Jesus, peace with God was again possible. That’s why the apostle Paul speaks of Jesus being ‘our peace’ (Ephesians 2:14). He wrote to the church in Rome, saying: ‘Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us’ (Romans 5:1) – a sentiment he repeats in Colossians 1:20-22
Fundamentally, there can be no peace in our souls until we know our meaning, identity, and destiny. Until we find our rightful home in God, we will remain anxious orphans.
So, can I welcome you home?
Prayer: My Lord, I cannot imagine not knowing you. You have pursued me with your love so that I am no longer a stranger to you. Wonderfully, I am no longer ignorant of you, or an enemy of yours. Rather, you have declared me to be your child.
