Reflection:  Peace, in a very real sense, is a test of faith. At it’s heart is the question: “Can God be trusted?”
This is the issue Jesus addresses in Matthew 6:24-34.
He says that we can either strive to find peace through financial security – or, we can find peace by resting back into God and trusting him with the management of our lives.
In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches a radical new way of living. He tells us (note: ‘tells’ us) not to worry about food or clothing, because God has designed things to live and flourish. Birds and flowers are provided for in the natural order of things.
However, our doubting heart says: “plenty of birds and flowers die in floods and droughts, so dare I trust?
Yet Jesus is insistent. He teaches us something that is almost unbelievable. He says that when we come under God’s management, we become his responsibility when it comes to provision. So, if we are engaged in God’s work (even if that involves suffering) God will give us what we need to fulfill his purposes.
It’s a big promise, and I invite you to test it.
Prayer:Â Dear Father, forgive me when my faith wobbles, and I struggle to believe I am your responsibility when it comes to provision. Jesus demonstrated this truth. Please give me the strength to follow his example and live this truth myself.
