14 day plan

Joy in God … no Matter What?

Day 11 of 14

NIV

Psalms 90:10-11

10Our days may come to seventy years,

or eighty, if our strength endures;

yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow,

for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

11If only we knew the power of your anger!

Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due.

Reflection:   God speaks reality to us through Moses. He spells out the limit of our life span – 70 or 80 years, if our strength endures. And this strength is from God anyway. And he makes it very clear — our years will be full of trouble and sorrow.

What does the writer mean by ‘If only we knew the power of your anger’ in v11? Moses is asking God for wisdom to understand how greatly he is offended and grieved by our sin.

Prayer: Father, thank you for giving us the wonder of your gift of life. Thank you for all that is good. Please help us to fully grasp your grief and anger at our sin. Help us to know it is because you love us. Please help us to run to you and cling to you all the time, and especially when in trouble and sorrow. We are thankful that no matter what, there are always many things we can be thankful for.
