Reflection: Jesus Christ, image of the invisible God
Do you want to know God? Look to Jesus! No one has ever seen God, but Jesus, God the Son, has made him known to us (John 1:18).
Just as humans were made in the image of God, Jesus is the image of God. Fully human (like us but without sin) and also fully God, Jesus is the bridge between God and humanity; Jesus makes it possible for humans to understand something of the Creator.
But there’s more! At God’s good pleasure, Jesus is the means of making all things better; he is the reconciler. Reconciliation is the restoring of a broken relationship. Due to sin, God’s relationship with the creation (“all things”) needs fixing, including with human beings. Through the death (“blood”) of Christ on the cross, God restores those relationships—yours, mine, and with all creation. Peace will reign!
Question: What can you do to know God better?
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, you are the revealer of God, image of the Almighty, and the one who is the redeemer of all things, reconciling them to their Creator; we praise you for your work on the cross, and we ask you to remind us every day that you are worthy of praise and honour and glory and power, now and forever. Amen.
