Reflection: Jesus Christ, Word of God – Creator, Revealer, Redeemer
In the New Testament, four profound Christological passages stand out. They are in John 1, Colossians 1, Hebrews 1, and Philippians 2. The first three, which we look at in this series, speak of the Son’s involvement in creation.
In language that would have engaged the scholars of the time, John introduces the Word as the creative power of God that brings light and life to humanity. The scholars may have nodded their heads in agreement. But then John 1 reaches the radical, thoroughly Christian understanding: The Word is not just a creative power; the Word becomes flesh (v. 12). The Word is Jesus Christ, revealing the nature of God himself.
Christianity is different to other religions; God reaches down to us in a way that we can relate to. In a person!
Prayer: We praise you Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created and without whom nothing was made that has been made.
We praise you Lord Jesus Christ, for you came to earth as a helpless babe to reveal the Godhead to fallen humanity.
We praise you Lord Jesus Christ, for you are not just creator and revealer but also redeemer. Thank you for the hope we have of everlasting life: salvation by faith in you.
