Reflection:
God speaks a lot about the zeal he has for his name. Sadly, it is not a zeal that many shares today.
Zeal of any kind, outside those causes currently promoted by the media as being “on trend”, is viewed with scorn. Today, it is the cynic, the observer, and the commentator who is lauded.
However, ‘zeal without knowledge’ can create havoc (Proverbs 19:2). The good news is that the converse is also true. Zeal with knowledge gives a person a purpose worth living for. In fact, without it, you will be aimless – a vapid irrelevance.
Jesus had a zeal for his Father’s honour (John 2:16-17). The prophet, Jeremiah, had the same zeal. He couldn’t help but speak God’s word, as you can see from today’s verse.
No life is worth living without zeal. That’s why the apostle Paul says, ‘Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord’ (Romans 12:11).
Please don’t die without finding the one worthy of your zeal.
Prayer: My Lord God, The beauty and glory of your goodness deserves my fullest attention. How can I be lukewarm about such a thing? So I hereby commit my life to speaking your truth and showing your love.
