Reflection:
Storms are inevitable in life. Wicked, ruinous things happen to precious people, and they will happen to you. Injustice will stab at you, seeking to provoke you and destroy you. The question is: Will you survive? Will hope be overwhelmed with bitterness – or will it grow character?
There have been occasions when I have been driven to God in tears with the total conviction that I had nowhere else to go. And that’s when I’ve felt his hand under me.
So, it all comes down to trust.
Jesus once assured his disciples that no one who has given up having a family, or given up a cushy livelihood in order to follow him will fail to have their reward in this life, as well as the next. That’s some promise! It is a promise that things will more than compensate in this life. But to prevent us from being foolishly triumphalistic, Jesus goes on to warn us that we will also know persecution (Mark 10:29-30).
And that’s pretty much what I’ve discovered to be true.
Trust God with your storms.
Prayer:
My Lord Jesus, May I give you my pain and show you my grief. You alone can calm the storms and bring hope. May I hear your voice of authority speak peace?
