Reflection:
Nehemiah was encouraging his people back in Jerusalem, in the midst of their sorrow and downcast state due the state of their city, that the joy of the Lord was their strength. Nehemiah reminds his people, that taking hold of the joy of the Lord, would give them the strength and power to stand against all odds, and achieve something beyond anything anyone could ever imagine possible.
This joy gave them the strength to rise from the ash heap. This joy gave them the strength to rebuild the ruins of their city. This joy gave them the courage to face their enemies. This joy gave Israel the strength to rewrite their history, on a new page.
The joy of the Lord can be yours today and can give you the strength to face your most difficult situation, right this very moment.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, your joy is my strength in the midst of my pain and sorrow; in Jesus’ name I claim this promise.
