Reflection:
Every word that God speaks goes forth with power, authority, and purpose. God was speaking through Isaiah to a discouraged Israel in captivity, whose future was bleak and uncertain, whose life was hard, and whose faith and hope had been eroded by their difficult circumstances.
In this verse, God was speaking hope and at the same time, building the faith in his people, reminding them that his ways and thoughts are different from theirs, and that the way out for them in their present difficult circumstances is totally not what they would expect.
Just as God delivered his people Israel into the hands of their captors, in the very same way, according to his Word and time, he would deliver them.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, give me the courage to trust and obey your Word. My life and the world I live in are not perfect, and not what I had anticipated or expected. But help me to have faith and hope that, through your Word and in your time, you will deliver me.
