Reflection:
Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 when he was tempted in the wilderness, concerning turning stones into bread. In the Old Testament, Moses was given this reminder to challenge Israel as they reflected on their forty years journey in the wilderness. God fed Israel with manna in the wilderness, a type of bread meal that was only enjoyed when Israel obeyed and kept the commands given regarding the manna.
Israel’s daily supply and provision of manna depended on their faith and obedience towards God’s commands. In fact, Israel’s survival within the wilderness these forty years all hinged on their faith, trust, and simple obedience to God’s command’s.
This wilderness experience and command is like a favourite food recipe. To enjoy the favourite dish, one must adhere to the recipe and cooking instructions. God’s Word is the recipe for life and eternity.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help me to live, obey and trust your Word daily, that I may receive my daily portion and ‘manna’.
