Reflection: Tuesday: Apocalyptic Interlude
I loved backpacking around Israel and Jordan. My favourite spot in Jerusalem was the Mount of Olives. You can see the whole city. It is magnificent. Some of those same stones are still there and they are massive.
It’s easy to imagine Peter, James, John and Andrew overlooking the whole city from the same spot (vs 3) with a sense of impossibility about Jesus’ warning.
I wonder whether the seeming impossibility of what Jesus was saying ever led to complacency, complacency to cynicism, and cynicism to apathy?
Can I share another confession with you? Sometimes I wonder if I’m actually on that alternative faith track towards apathy; especially with the parts of Jesus’ teaching I find intangible, or hard to believe and live out. Have you ever been there, or is it just me?
Prayer: Jesus, give me faith to follow you, even when it seems so intangible. Amen.
