Reflection: Friday: At the Cross
And there they were. Away from all the cameras.
And talking to me for what seemed like a lifetime!
The most powerful person in Australia: The Prime Minister.
They were nothing like I had expected. The picture I had was totally wrong. I had totally misjudged them.
I’ve often thought my friends who don’t follow Jesus have an unhelpful caricature of a Grumpy God that’s nothing like the real thing. But I’ve discovered that I have an equally one-dimensional caricature of Jesus (and what Easter is all about), as just a quick fix for my long list of individual sins.
The raw reality of the cross brings us face to face with God, and challenges all of our assumptions.
Who do you encounter? What misconceptions of God does the cross strip away for you?
Reflection:
When we reject Him, He still embraces us, arms open wide.
When we abandon Him, He shows us he’ll never leave us, no matter the cost.
When we betray Him, He declares that He is still with us and for us.
When we demand He ‘saves himself,’ He saves us all instead.
Evil’s triumph becomes our King’s crowning victory.
Prayer: Jesus, I hesitantly ask that you truly shape me in your likeness, to live a cruciform life.
