Reflection: In the beginning, God walked with his people in the garden he had made: Creator, creature and creation all in sync with each other. Our sin, however, broke that perfect relationship. But God continued to walk with his wayward people, even going so far as to send Jesus, his own son, to reconcile us with God.
In Revelation, here is the happy resolution to that story. Just as those who trust in Jesus are to follow him, in God’s everlasting kingdom, the nations will be led by God. No longer torn in strife or division, they will walk by his light. Kings will redirect their earthly glory to the source of all cosmic glory. The glory of God will illuminate all.
This story started in a garden, but it ends in a city. We’ve travelled a long way with God, and here we find ourselves at the end of the road. Or is it? It sounds like a new beginning to me.
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for this incredible picture of harmony and peace that will reign in your everlasting kingdom, and the story it tells of your great love and faithfulness for your people. Keep us trusting in you, and awaiting the day that you usher us into your presence forever. Come, Lord Jesus, come! Amen.
