Reflection:Â Jesus chose to live in the present.
He knew that life could be difficult, and we would worry about things we needed and what was going on in our life. He at no point says our problems are unimportant or don’t exist. He is trying to get us to think and live differently like he did. The only thing that really matters is seeking after God and following Christ’s example in our lives. It’s about how we orientate our minds to the task at hand and how we prioritise what is important. This then flows into how we handle the mundane things of life that confront us every day.
We seek God’s kingdom and his righteousness when we wash the dishes, take out the rubbish, clean up after our kids, do the part of our job we hate, show kindness to a colleague who annoys us. It’s about living in the moment and choosing to live like Christ would in every situation. This won’t make our problems disappear, but it will stop us ruminating about them and letting them drag our minds away from what is important.
So, my challenge to you is to focus on Christ and trying to be like him in everything you do, instead of worrying about what might happen tomorrow.
Prayer: Christ Jesus, I want to seek your kingdom first above all else in my life. I don’t want to be distracted by the worries I have. Keep me living in the present moment, focused on you, and listening to the leading of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
